Squalicum Residence

Bellingham, WA

Zervas Architects

The Squalicum Residence is 6500 sf. It boasts a commanding view looking north from the top of Squalicum Mountain. The natural feel of the Pacific Northwest is resounding as you drive on the grounds. As you enter the house you get a warm feeling of subtle wood accents that offset a flair of contemporary industrial tones. The two-story residence is constructed with concrete walls on the exterior as well as within. The balance is wood framed with exposed steel I beams used as supporting members that accent the project. There are two exterior wood fireplaces to enjoy on covered decks and two gas fireplaces within the house that provide warmth throughout.

“We love our new home. I think we most strongly feel what it all means to us as we come down the drive approaching the house. The evergreens part and there it is: a warm, welcoming grand entry with the stunning backdrop of the woods, valley, and majestic Coastal Mountains. Stepping inside the house, the floor-to-ceiling windows continue to provide views of nature, linking us to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest at every turn. While the house is obviously quite modern inside and out, generous use of wood, warm tones, and organic Cor-ten steel provides balance and warmth. Pearson Construction worked with us to pay attention to every little detail, constructing something truly unique and true to our vision.”
